ROBERT OXTEN BOLT
ROBERT OXTEN BOLT was born in Manchester in 1924. After serving in the RAF in World War II he taught English in a private school and wrote radio and stage plays in his spare time. Flowering Cherry was his first stage success, followed by A Man for All Seasons, his most famous play. Other stage plays include Vivat Vivat Regina, The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew, Gentle Jack, The Tiger and the Horse and State of Revolution. He wrote screenplays for Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago (which won him an Oscar), A Man for All Seasons (for which he won his second Oscar), Ryan's Daughter, Lady Caroline Lamb, The Bounty and The Mission. He died in 1995 at the age of 70.
