London's Billy Elliot to Play 1,000th Performance in October

By Andrew Gans
02 Sep 2007

The London production of Billy Elliot the Musical, which began performances at the Victoria Palace Theatre in March 2005, will play its 1,000th performance there Oct. 4.

The hit Elton John-Lee Hall musical, which will arrive at Broadway's Imperial Theatre in fall 2008, will also soon welcome two new Billys to the London cast: 13-year-old Sam Angell from Glasgow and 13-year-old Joshua Fedrick from Saltash, Cornwall.

The current Billy Elliots are Dean McCarthy, Layton Williams, Corey Snide and Oliver Taylor. The actors, who alternate in the demanding role, are featured in a cast that includes Jackie Clune (Mrs. Wilkinson), James Gaddas (Dad), Chris Lennon (Tony), Ann Emery (Grandma), Trevor Fox (George), Alex Delamere (Mr. Braithwaite), Sara Poyzer (Mum) and Isaac James (Older Billy).

Billy Elliot the Musical, according to press notes, "is set in the North East and is a funny, heart-warming and feel-good celebration of one young boy's dreams." Elton John composed the music, and Lee Hall wrote lyrics and the book, the latter based on the hit film of the same name. Stephen Daldry directed, and Peter Darling choreographed. Designs are by Ian MacNeil with sound by Paul Arditti and lighting by Rick Fisher.

The Victoria Palace Theatre is located on Victoria Street in London. For more information visit www.billyelliotthemusical.com.
