Montalban, Coreia, Danner, Walsh and More Set for Free jenny & me Reading

By Andrew Gans
24 Jul 2008

Paolo Montalban

The York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series will continue July 28 with a free reading of the new musical jenny & me.

The 7:30 PM reading will boast the talents of Jeffery Coreia, Keith Crowningshield, Harry Danner, Valerie Di Lorenzo, Valerie Fagin, Robert Felbinger, Paul Jason Green, Darryl Hickman, Paolo Montalban, Justin Packard, Elise Tuscano and James Walsh. Guy Stroman will direct the evening with music direction by Steven Freeman and music supervision by Jack Lee.

jenny & me features book and lyrics by Darryl Hickman, music by Peter Matz and additional music by Steve Lang. The musical, which is set in Manhattan in the Roaring Twenties, is the true story of "Eugenia and Vincent Sardi, two penniless Italian immigrants who built a restaurant on East 44th Street under the patronage of the most powerful man in the theatre, Lee Shubert: he simply couldn't resist the way Jenny cooked his smelts! With speakeasy-legend Texas Guinan at their side, our heroes defied eviction, bootleggers, and a Mafia Don to turn Sardi's into the most famous theatrical watering hole since The Mermaid Tavern."

York Theatre Company productions play The Theatre at Saint Peter's, which is located in Manhattan on 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue. The show is currently sold out; to be put on a waiting list e-mail Jeff Landsman at Jlandsman@yorktheatre.org or call (212) 935-5824, ext. 24.
