Klein to Direct Gorman in Hot Cripple for FringeNYC

By Adam Hetrick
25 Jul 2008

Hot Cripple, Hogan Gorman's comedic assault on the American healthcare system, will be part of the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival.

Isaac Klein, assistant to Arthur Laurents on the 2008 revival of Gypsy and the forthcoming production of West Side Story, serves as director for the 90-minute solo work that begins performances Aug. 8 at the CSV Cultural Center.

Gorman stars in the work about "an ex-model turned actress/waitress, hoping for a change in her life when she got exactly that…unfortunately it came at her at 30 miles per hour as she was hit by a car while crossing the street. Don't worry, though, it's not a sob story. It's a wild ride with crippled hand jobs, a stalker ambulance driver, short-term memory loss, forgotten food stamps, a hot doctor, a crazy judge and a fashionista's guide of what to wear to the welfare office. And at the core of this story: a look at what happens to the uninsured in this country when they unexpectedly become sick or injured."

Hogan Gorman has appeared in the independent films "Everything for a Reason," "Center of the World" and "Adverse Possessions." As a theatre artist, she has performed at Ubu Repertory, the Pulse Ensemble and One Dream. Hot Cripple is her first play.

Small Pond Entertainment produces Hot Cripple, which will be presented Aug. 8, 11, 13, 22 and 24. Tickets are available by visiting FringeNYC.

The CSV Cultural Center is located at 107 Suffolk St. in Manhattan.
