The Irish Repertory Theatre will extend its production of The Emperor Jones by one week, now to Dec. 6.
The expressionistic classic about "the charismatic Brutus Jones, a self proclaimed emperor of an island nation, who attempts to flee the angry natives and his personal demons," plays Irish Rep's Off-Broadway home at 132 W. 22nd Street in Manhattan.
Ciaran O'Reilly directs the 1920 play by the author of Long Day's Journey Into Night.
Strong reviews and brisk sales have prompted the extension. John Douglas Thompson plays the title role. The cast includes Helen Hayes Award-winning actor Rick Foucheux as Smithers, with Michael Akil Davis, Jon Deliz, Sameerah Harris, David Heron and Sinclair Mitchell.
Tickets are $65 and $55, and are available by calling (212) 727-2737. For more information visit www.irishrep.org.
