Arago
New York City, Ne |
Arago is a non-text-based play that does follow a prose style narrative. Although there is no dialogue the play is scripted. The action takes place on a bare stage in Black. The only set pieces are a rubbish bin and a shoebox. Much is left to the imagination of the spectators as they are invited into the shows action. With no music and frequent direct eye contact it is difficult for anyone in the space to resist investment in the show on some level. Aesthetically Arago is influenced by Beckett and the Vaudevillian tramp clowns, mainly Chaplin and Keaton. With no Text inevitably mime comes into play. The ideas and writings from the French school of thought, most notably Decroux, influence the mime work. And finally, to include the spectators the clown work helps everyone involved to drop their guards and engage. |
